Since 2015 I have designed and run the lighting for the theatrical galas of the Italian Gymnastics Federation: the evenings when the national rhythmic gymnastics team, the Farfalle, and the other national squads leave the competition floor and take the stage. Under the artistic direction of Emanuela Maccarani, head coach of the national team since 1997 and the most decorated coach in the history of Italian sport, every gala turns technique into theatre, with music, video and light.
Golden Butterfly Gala · Desio, 2015–2022
An extraordinary flutter of wings. The yearly show starring the Farfalle in their home town: an evening in which rhythmic gymnastics meets a wide audience and creates new synergies with music, visual art and video installations.
150 Years of the Federation · Teatro La Fenice, Venice, 2019
150 years in one show. Music, sound, light, colour and movement: the Federation celebrated its 150th birthday at La Fenice, between history and modernity, a glorious past and a future still to be lived. A 55-minute show conceived by Emanuela Maccarani and Tiziana Di Pilato, staged in one of the great theatres of the world.
Butterfly Symphonic Gala · Teatro Municipale Valli, Reggio Emilia, 2022
A sold-out theatre for the 225th anniversary of the Italian flag. A series of gymnastic tableaux took the discipline from leotard to stage costume and from the gym to the stage. Hosted by sports journalist Lia Capizzi and dancer Samuel Peron, the evening was a theatrical show full of colour, lasers and acrobatics, telling how a young gymnast becomes a star: a butterfly.

The Federation’s celebration of the Paris 2024 Olympic medallists: the Farfalle together with the artistic gymnastics, aerobic and acrobatic national teams on the stage of the Teatro Regio, hosted by Luca Bizzarri.
